Free Access Skating Lakes

Just because our lake doesn't have inspected skating on it doesn't mean you can't have a great time on lakes in the winter. We've curated several lakes all close drives that you can have a great time at. Many have hiking/snowshoeing around them too so you can make it a full day adventure.

Please take time to check winter conditions at the state website before venturing out. It may sound silly, but it's a great idea to wear a PFD when skating on lakes and is the ultimate in safety. Several days with temperatures above freezing will weaken the ice.

Tobyhanna State Park

The closest option for public ice skating public. Only 13 minutes away.

TLC Park

It's at the corner of ST 611 & SR 715 in Tannersville (about 18 minutes away). Search for Veterans Memorial Park or click this link.

Gouldsboro State Park

Checkout Gouldboro State Park which is only 20 minutes away. In the winter, there's ice skating and if you have snowshoes, you can enjoy hiking around the park too!

Promised Land State Park

Another great option for public ice skating. Only 40 minutes away.
